The main purpos of this workshop is to exchange information and ideas on how to apply CFD techniques to practical problems in wind engineering related to environmental, architectural and structural engineering. The workshop should assemble both researchers and users of CFD techniques from industries, governmental services and academic sectors. Several invited lectures will review major topics and new trends in the field and provide an opportunity for engineers, designers and governmental officials to comprehend the state of the art and recent advances in CFD. Attractive demonstrations of CFD simulations including videos and posters will be prepared by expert CFD users and vendors of CFD codes in this area. These will impart valuable knowledge and important know-how for practical use of the numerical simulation. Discussions between the participants representing industries and academic sectors will clarify current problems and future needs in CFD research and of users in order to make CFD techniques more practical.
The workshop is composed of lectures by invited speakers, poster sessions,
vendorユs expositions, etc. The workshop will cover the following topics.
・Boysan, F. Fluent Inc. (USA)
"CFD Applications to Environmental Flows"
・Gosman, A.D. Imperial College of Science (UK)
"Developments in CFD for Industrial and Environmental Applications"
・Koike, H. Fuji / RIC (Japan)
"Evolution of CFD Software from Academic Code to Practical Engineering Software"
・Laurence, D. Laboratoire National d'Hydraulique (France) / Bertoglio Jean-Pierre, Laboratoire d'Mecanique (France)
"Status of LES and RANSE for bluff body aerodynamics"
・Murakami, S. University of Tokyo (Japan)
"Current Status and Future Trends in Computational Wind Engineering"
・Tamura, T. Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan)
"Reliability on CFD Estimation for Wind-Structure Interaction Problems"
・Tezduyar, T.E. University of Minnesota (USA)
"Advanced Methods for Flow Simulation and Modeling"
・Yamada, T. Yamada Science & Art (USA)
"A Numerical Simulation of Urbanization on the Local Climate" |
Poster sessions supported by oral presentations have been organized to
discuss actual utilization of CFD for various applications.
About
24 papers have been accepted as poster presentations with a 3 minute oral
summary. For the selected authors, a poster board of 120cmx90cm with a cloth-covered
cork board for using push pins(provided) will be prepared at the workshop
site and an opportunity for an oral presentation will be given in the main
conference room.
All invited and contributed papers will
be published in a volume of the proceedings to be available at the workshop.
The papers submitted will be reviewed for possible publication
in a Special Issue of the Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics
(JWEIA) according to the following schedule. A regular review procedure
will be made by at least two reviewers who will be chosen by the Programing
Committee.
July 15, 1998 | Deadline for full-length papers (6-10 pages in length) |
September 1, 1998 | Notification of papers' acceptance for the Special Issue of JWEIA |
October 31, 1998 | Deadline for the revised papers conforming to the form of JWEIA |
November 30, 1998 | Sending the revised papers to Elsevier |
May, 1999 | Publishing completed |
As mentioned in the objectives, the main purpose of this workshop is to exchange information and ideas on how to apply CFD techniques to practical problems in wind engineering related to environmental, architectural and structural engineering. Based on this goal, the workshop will assemble both researchers and users of CFD techniques from industries, governmental services and academic sectors, and provide an opportunity for engineers, designers and governmental officials to lean about the state of the art and recent advances in CFD.
Demonstrations and visual presentations by vendors are planned during
the workshop.
About 15 vendors are listed in the Vendorユs
Expositions. Various CFD codes and new hardware will be displayed. The vendor
session will be scheduled in the evening of Aug.24 (Mon.) before the opening
ceremony and a 3 minute oral presentation for each exposition will be made
in the main conference room.
The official languages of the Workshop are English and Japanese. Oral presentations
and discussions in the main conference room will be supported by simultaneous
translations. The text of all abstracts, full-length papers and posters
should be in English only.
