OF WIND EFFECTS ON STRUCTURES

PROGRAM(tentative)

The Workshop on CWE/CFD for Prediction of Wind Effects on Structures, will be held on August 9, 1996, in conjunction with the Second International Symposium on Computational Wind Engineering (CWE96). The Workshop is organized by the International Wind Engineering Forum (IWEF).

This will be an exciting opportunity to discuss present and future status of application of Computational Wind Engineering (CWE) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for prediction of wind effects on structures.

The goals of the workshop are:

Overview of CWE in context of prediction of wind effects on structures.
Review of current tools for analysis of wind effects on structures.
Update on recent developments in relevant (to CWE) CFD technologies, including large eddy simulation, finite element method, and numerical differencing/integration schemes.
Report on recent initiatives in CWE in Europe, Japan, and North America.
Discussion of expected/desired, for assessment of wind effects on structures, developments and collaborative initiatives in CWE/CFD.

The workshop will bring together researchers and professionals in the area of wind engineering, structural mechanics and engineering, atmospheric sciences, computational wind engineering and computational fluid dynamics.

Invited speakers of the workshop include: Prof. A. Kareem (University of Notre Dame), Prof. S. Murakami (Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo), Prof. T. Nomura (Nihon University), Dr. P. Smolarkiewicz (National Center for Atmospheric Research), Prof. T. Stathopoulos (Concordia University), Dr. P. P. Sullivan (National Center for Atmospheric Research), and Prof. T. Tamura (Tokyo Institute of Technology).

The registration fee for the workshop is $100, a student rate is $25.
